Alicia Vikander has officially stepped into the combat boots of our favourite Tomb Raider, Lara Croft.
The iconic role was first played by Angelina Jolie in two films, the last of which aired a whopping 14 years ago. At the time, Lara looked a little something like this...
...and in 2017, she's going to be looking strikingly similar, apparently.
The first look at Alicia in costume has arrived, and she's certainly rocking the same beige battle gear and badass 'tude as her 2003 counterpart.
Vanity Fair reports that this reboot comes with a new backstory for Croft.
“Seven years after the disappearance of her father, 21-year-old Lara has refused to take the reins of his global business empire, instead working as a bike courier in London while taking college classes. Eventually she becomes inspired to investigate her father’s disappearance and travels to his last-known location: a tomb on an island somewhere off the coast of Japan,” they reported.
Tomb Raider is set for release in March 2018, but fans are already losing it over those first glimpses of Alicia in action.
As for the actress herself, Alicia told Vanity Fair that she's "excited" about the role.
“It’s a lot of fun trying to get into Lara’s head and the challenge of getting to grips with such a physical role is an element of this project that I find an absolute thrill,” she said.
We can't even wait!
