In case you missed it, the 2019 SAG Awards took place in L.A. on Monday and the red carpet was as bold as we had hoped. The Favourite star, Emma Stone served one of the best looks of the day wearing a gold embellished top with a pair of silk high-waisted pants, both by Louis Vuitton. To compliment Stone's high-neckline, her hairstylist of 12-years Mara Roszak, opted for a side-swept messy bun. However, it was her unexpected hair accessory which made us sit up and take note.
Divulging her behind-the-scenes secrets, Roszak says she made a trip to an "old school" fabric store for inspiration and ended up reaching for a piece of gold thread.
"Today I had that thread, but I didn’t exactly know what I was going to do with it," she tells InStyle.
"We knew we wanted the hair to be up because Emma was wearing this really intricate gold-beaded, one-shouldered top, but I didn't want the updo to disappear, or be overly structured and lay tight on her head."
Amazingly, Roszak didn't need any bobby pins to secure the thread in Stone's messy braid. The secret? Prepping tresses with a texturising foam (while Roszak's go-to isn't sold outside the U.S. we love IGK Sunday Funday Texture Foam).
"That's why it's so important to create texture and hold in the hair before pulling it up," she says. "The right products are key if I'm going for a look with more texture because I can really just twist it up then."
When it came time to add the finishing touches, Emma's make-up artist Rachel Goodwin turned to a gorgeous brick red lipstick by Sisley Paris. "I mixed wine and brown shades together to create a strong lip," Goodwin tells Allure, referring to Le Phyto Rouge Lipstick in Orange Sevilla layered over Phyto-Levres Perfect Lip Liner in Burgundy.
