If you haven’t heard of Duckie Thot yet, then you’re about to hear a lot more from her. The stunning Sudanese-Australian model was just announced as L’Oréal Paris’ newest spokeswoman and she’s set to mark her debut at the Le Défilé L’Oréal Paris, that will take place on a floating runway on Paris’ iconic Seine River.
Thot (whose first name is actually Nyadak), stepped onto the scene in 2013 when she came in third place on Australia’s Next Top Model. Taking a chance on a modelling career, Thot left Oz for the bright lights of New York City and has never looked back.
The 22-year-old has walked in numerous runway shows including Yeezy and most recently for Rihanna's Savage X Fenty lingerie line and will also make her debut in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show later this year.
The young model has used her voice to advocate for inclusivity and revealed in a statement to WWD how she intends to use her new role to inspire young girls. “I’m honoured to represent L’Oréal Paris, a brand that celebrates infinite ways to be beautiful and makes products for all women.
“I’m looking forward to helping more girls love the beauty of their dark skin. In my mind, I’m going back in time and telling the young girl I was: ‘Dream big, work hard and trust in yourself girl, because one day you’re going to say yes to the number one beauty brand.’”
Born in Melbourne to parents who had escaped Sudan’s civil war, the young model has six siblings. Despite being born Nyadak, Thot was nicknamed Duckie after her teachers and peers struggled to pronounce her name.
Thot joins the impressive L’Oréal Paris ambassador lineup which includes Jane Fonda, Eva Longoria, Doutzen Kroes, Barbara Palvin and Julianne Moore among others.
