Louis Vuitton travelled south to the French Rivera to present a show that payed homage to eccentricity. Offbeat tailoring, cute cat-shapes bags and thigh-high boot-sneaker hybrids took centre stage on the catwalk, while actors Sienna Miller, Laura Harrier and Sophie Turner stunned from the sidelines.
While the biannual ready-to-wear season spans a month as it moves between the four major fashion capitals, resort season runway shows are notorious for their far-flung and somewhat more extravagant locations. Last year, Louis Vuitton creative director Nicolas Ghesquière flew the style set to Japan to showcase the label's cruise collection, while Maria Grazia Chiuri presented Dior's in California's Calabasas desert.
This year however, both houses returned home to France to reveal their resort 2019 collections. Dior showed an hour outside of Paris in Chantilly, where the open-air set bore the brunt of bad weather. Models marched through the rain and the front row—which included the likes of Alexa Chung and Paris Jackson—had to be rescued by umbrellas. The collection itself took inspiration from Escaramuza; female rodeo riders from Mexico, and an eight-woman squad opened and closed the show on horseback.
