Destiny's Child singer Michelle Williams is checking into a mental health centre following her battle with depression, reports TMZ.
The 37-year-old entered the Los Angeles treatment facility a few days ago and released a public statement on Tuesday.
"For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it's time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your wellbeing," Williams said.
"Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need," the Survivor singer continued.
Michelle has spoken out about her mental health struggles in the past, during a 2017 appearance on U.S. tv show The Talk, she bravely shared, "I’m in one of the top-selling female groups of all time, suffering with depression."
"When I disclosed it to our manager at the time, bless his heart, he was like, 'You all just signed a multi-million dollar deal. You’re about to go on tour. What do you have to be depressed about?'"
"So I was like, 'Oh, maybe I’m just tired,'" she said. But she admitted that she only got worse from there and that got "to the point where I was suicidal I was at the place where it got so dark and heavy...and wanted out" from the group.
"I think at the age of 25, had I had a name to what I was feeling at the time, I would have disclosed that ‘I've been suffering from depression," she said
In March, Williams reunited with Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland at Coachella, winning over crowds with the best-silling hits from the naughties.
