Cillian Murphy could be the next James Bond, and we are ready to sign a petition, or stage a protest, or basically do whatever is necessary to secure this situation. We, personally, give this casting our very sincere blessing.
When Daniel Craig's final installment is released in 2019, the beloved spy franchise will require a new leading man. From Idris Elba, to Tom Hiddleston, to Tom Hardy, the list of contenders is never-ending, though it is Murphy's name that has been growing in popularity in recent months.
The Peaky Blinders star is rising to prominence among betting agents in the UK, with Esquire reporting that the actor had his odds slashed from 125/1 three months ago all the way to a much more likely 12/1.
“The Irishman is the darling of the Great British public at the moment and that’s replicated in who people want as their next heartthrob to play the prestigious role,” British bookies OddsChecker say.
With roles in the war epic Dunkirk, and a five-season stint as Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders, it's no wonder the 41-year-old actor has built up a loyal fan-base in England.
Of course, his rise in betting circles could also have something to do with reports that Danny Boyle will direct the next installment of the franchise. The pair have worked together previously on 28 Days Later and Sunshine.
Only time will tell if our favourite star (and his impossibly high cheekbones) will secure the role, but we are certainly on board for a Murphy rendition of Bond, James Bond.
