Cheryl Cole is speaking out for the first time following her split from former One Direction singer, Liam Payne.
The couple announced it was over after two years together, sharing a joint statement on social media on Monday. And now, Cheryl is hitting back at false rumours circulating about the reason they called it quits. Taking to Twitter, the Fight For This Love singer wrote, "I hate responding to stuff esp at such difficult times but I cannot sit here and listen to such nasty, false articles regarding my mam.”
The 35-year-old continued, "I don’t know why they involve her in stories about me. I can assure you she has absolutely nothing to do with any of it. I am a grown woman who is capable of dealing with my own life. She is a soft and kind woman who doesn’t deserve to be dragged into something that has nothing whatsoever to do with her."
The couple, who welcomed their son Bear last year, confirmed the upsetting news on social media.
"We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It’s been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together,” Cheryl wrote.
Payne also shared an almost identical break-up statement with his 33 million Twitter followers on Monday morning.
Liam and Cheryl stepped out as a couple for the first time in late 2015.
