Cheese Toastie's were a culinary gift sent to us mere mortals from the heavens, and that is an undeniable fact.
Whether it's the classic cheese and bread combo or some other ~swanky~ creation, there's no denying it's delish. So long as it's got gooey cheese and buttery, crispy bread, then a toastie can be created with literally any other topping and it's a guaranteed winner. Ham, beef, mushrooms, onions and oh my lord we're getting hungry over here! You literally can't go wrong... or so we thought.
According to glorious food blogger and magical life-changer Tristan Lutze, the secret to a perfect toastie is, in fact, mayonnaise.
"So, if you use mayo on the outside of your toasted cheese sandwiches instead of butter, you’ll get a crispier, meltier, more delicious result," he revealed in a new post, to shocked cheese toastie aficionados around the globe.
According to Tristan, the bread browns more evenly, but burns less quickly when you use mayonnaise instead of butter. What?! He also pointed out that it spreads evenly on a range of breads, and toasts any loaf to 'crispy' perfection.
