Walking into the iconic Grand Palais for Chanel’s spring 2020 runway show, it was clear that this season a French theme would reign supreme. Parisian rooftops had been erected inside the space, and the rumours of Virginie Viard’s focus on a “French girl cool” aesthetic was evident from the moment the first look exited.
The most notable celebrity appearance? Cardi B looking super cool in a monochrome ensemble and matching hat.
I loved the simplicity of the clean undone hair and understated make-up, as seen on Gigi Hadid, who stopped a runway intruder in her tracks later on in the show!
Most of the models wore flat or very low-heeled sandals, which added to the effortless appeal.
For me, the skyline silk prints were a standout—so beautiful. I also loved the newer Chanel silhouettes that featured, such as oversized cardigans and ‘70s trapeze-style knee-length dresses.
The gimmicks and themed bags of past Chanel shows were nowhere to be seen and the jewellery also took on a more subtle tone that felt in line with Viard's image of understated cool.
This tweed set was another of my favourite looks. I also liked how higher-cut shorts were cleverly offset by long coats and opaque stockings to make them feel super wearable.
This gorgeous evening look capped off the show—so chic!
