Jennifer Lopez in Versace
Jennifer Lopez can now add 'broken the Internet twice' to her long growing list of achievements. The first time we saw this dress on Lopez was at the 2000 Grammys, which inspired the creation of Google Images (yes, really!). The second time, the Hustlers actress wore it to close out the Versace fashion show in 2019 - a moment that went well and truly viral.
"The second time I wore it and walked out there, it was such an empowering thing," Lopez told Vanity Fair. "Twenty years had gone by, and I think for women, knowing you can put on a dress 20 years later, it resonated. It was like, 'Yes, you know, life is not over at 20!'"
Rita Moreno in Pitoy Moreno
Jane Fonda in Elie Saab
In 2019, Jane Fonda promised to never buy a new piece of clothing again to raise awareness of climate change - and it seems she stuck to that promise, pulling out a dress she'd previously worn for the 2020 Oscars. The actress showed up to present the Best Picture award, appearing in a red Elie Saab gown she'd previously worn at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014. This time, she accessorised with her famous red coat - which Fonda wears while protesting, and has been photographed multiple times being arrested in.
Elizabeth Banks in Badgley Mischka
Elizabeth Banks first wore this strappy red gown while attending the 2004 Vanity Fair Oscars Party. At the 2020 event, she decided to give it a re-wear.
"I'm upcycling this dress — I wore this dress for the first time to Vanity Fair in 2004," Banks told Entertainment Tonight. "And, we very rarely get a dress gifted to us. Badgley Mischka made this dress for me. Back then, I was in Seabiscuit, which was a big Oscar nominee, and they gave it to me and I recently moved and found it in the back of the closet."
Laura Dern in 1017 ALYX 9SM
Back in 1995, Laura Dern attended a gala honouring Whoopi Goldberg alongside then-boyfriend Jeff Goldblum wearing a stunning 1017 ALYX 9SM black cut-out dress. The actress pulled it out of her wardrobe to wear it to the Vanity Fair Oscars Party in 2020, where she won Best Supporting Actress for Marriage Story. She also wore it back in 2013 to the same event. When it looks that good, we can see why Dern continues to pull it out.
Naomi Campbell
Being a fixture on the '90s catwalk, it should come as no surprise that Naomi Campbell racked up an impressive collection of Versace gowns. The supermodel first wore this silver number when walking down the runway in 1998, and decided to give it another wear while attending the Fragrance Foundation Awards in 2015. Of course, it's as chic as ever.
Paris Hilton in Julien Macdonald
Who would have thought that when It-girl Paris Hilton wore this sparkly Julien Macdonald number to her 21st in 2002, it would see a complete resurgence just years later in 2017? Supermodel Kendall Jenner wore a similar dress to ring in her 21st birthday, even captioning the photo: "Vintage Paris Hilton vibes."
Appearing in German singer Kim Petras music video for 'I Don't Want It All', Hilton decided to also get on the revival. She even decided to show up to one of her DJ gigs at Art Basel in Miami Beach wearing the chain-mail dress, although we're not entirely sure it's the exact dress.
Princess Diana in Catherine Walker
Princess Diana was forever the style chameleon. The late Princess of Wales first wore this Catherine Walker dress to a banquet in Munich in 1987. Ditching the '80s puff-sleeves in favour of a strapless designer, Diana later wore the powder blue gown to attend a Moulin Rouge performance at the Savoy Hotel in London just two years later in 1989. She wore the same earrings but opted out of the formal Spencer tiara (one of her go-to's).
