Glance at Douglas’ Instagram feed and you’ll see it doesn’t resemble that of an average teen. There are snaps of her at glamorous fashion events, magazine covers she’s graced, not to mention cameos from her famous family, the legendary Douglas dynasty. Then there’s the comments from Zeta-Jones that can be found scattered below the posts, too. “You are such a beautiful person, inside and out,” she gushes in response to a throwback family snap the teen uploaded. Needless to say, the mother-daughter bond is strong, as witnessed by the crew on this shoot promoting Fendi’s latest universal-appeal It bag, the Peekaboo, as part of the global #MeAndMyPeekaboo campaign series.
Captured on a stiflingly hot day in Rome, with nothing more than handheld fans to keep everyone cool, the images show the duo projecting a professional, almost serious air, but between shots was a completely different matter. “We had so much fun on set,” admits Douglas, who her mother describes as fearless. “The team played music the whole time, so we were listening to classic rock and disco as we shot and danced between takes. I think the Peekaboo bag and I both have that sense of versatility—we are able to adapt to different situations easily, whether that’s with fashion or just in life.”
One of a Kind
Can you keep a secret? Fendi’s Peekaboo bag can. Designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi for the luxury label’s spring/summer 2009 collection, the structured carryall has held myriad mysteries in its proverbial hand, because is there anything more personal than the inner depths of a woman’s bag? The Peekaboo has a few secrets of its own, too. Named after the fact its front pocket can bend and reveal a lining in contrasting colours or materials, it makes the statement ‘more than meets the eye’ ring true.
Of course, we can’t fault that timeless exterior either. It is, after all, the reason the Peekaboo has braved a decade of trends and come safely out the other side, having earned investment-piece status. And like all good investments, it’s coveted across generations. “The Peekaboo is timeless yet modern,” says Zeta-Jones, summing up the dualism so central to Fendi’s work. “Fun, versatile and elegant,” chimes in Douglas, who channels the whimsical spirit of the bag’s surprise-and-delight aesthetic. “I believe the Peekaboo bag is timeless because it can work for any occasion, for any person.”
