After what feels like forever, finally season two of Big Little Lies is less than a month away. With the main cast of Reese Witherspoon (Madeline MacKenzie), Nicole Kidman (Celeste Wright), Shailene Woodley (Jane Chapman), Laura Dern (Renata Klein) and Zoë Kravitz (Bonnie Carlson) all confirmed to return, plus the addition of Meryl Streep playing the late Perry's mother, the second instalment of the HBO drama is sure to be just as good - if not better - than the first.
As we await the show's Australian release date with bated breath, below we've wrapped up everything you need to know about Big Little Lies season two.
The Australian release date
HBO has confirmed season two will premiere on June 9th 2019 in the USA. But what does that mean for Australia? The show will be hitting Foxtel Now every Monday from June 10th.
The main cast will return
Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman will return as both main characters and executive producers, while Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern, and Shailene Woodley will reprise their roles onscreen. Meryl Streep has been added to the gang, entering Monteray as Celeste's late husband's mother, Mary Louise.
The trailer has been released
Finally, the full trailer has dropped, showing Mary Louise accuse Celeste of lying about Perry's death and a detective arrive on the scene to investigate.
Liane Moriarty wrote the script
Despite never writing a sequel to her hit book Big Little Lies, Australian author Liane Moriarty wrote a new story that season two is based on - so you can guarantee it'll be good.
There’s a new director attached
Jean-Marc Vallée directed every episode of season one, however, decided not to return for a second season. “If we do a season 2, we’ll break [a] beautiful thing and spoil it,” he said on the show's continuation. Vallée was replaced by director Andrea Arnold.
There will be seven episodes
Season one creator, writer and executive producer David E. Kelley wrote each episode's script, based on the story created especially for the show by Liane Moriarty.
Mary Louise Wright wants answers about her son's death
If we know anything about season two, it's that Meryl Streep's character has come in search of answers - and isn't about to accept the Monterey mother's explanations of what happened to her son.
Reese Witherspoon will throw an ice cream at Meryl Streep's head
In August 2018, the most iconic photo ever was captured showing Reese Witherspoon's character Madeline hurling an ice cream cone at Mary Louise (Streep) as she walks away. Witherspoon later shared the image on Instagram, confirming she has great aim and "got her!"
Bonnie’s parents will show up
Martin and Elizabeth Howard are two new characters on season two, playing Zoë Kravitz's character, Bonnie's, parents. Unfortunately, her real-life parents, Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, will not play the parts, rather the roles have gone to Martin Donovan and Crystal Fox.
Renata will face “challenges” in her marriage.
Earlier this year, Deadline released a few basic plot points for the season two, including that Renata faces some marital difficulties.
Big Little Lies season two streams on Foxtel Now on Mondays from June 10.
