Happy news for Big Little Lies fans was shared over the weekend, when it was confirmed that the Emmy-award-winning series would be coming back for a second season!
Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are returning to star in and produce the HBO series and negotiations are reportedly underway to secure the rest of the cast, which includes Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz and Laura Dern.
"This is inspired by the overwhelming response by audiences around the world, conceived once again by Liane Moriarty, realised by David Kelley and now in the hands of visionary filmmaker Andrea Arnold," Kidman said in a statement. "What a journey this has been. I'm so grateful to have this opportunity to keep exploring these female characters and make this series with my friends."
"I'm thrilled to be bringing back this talented team of artists," said Witherspoon. "It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate Monterey families and bring more of their stories back to the audience who embraced and championed them."
No word yet on exactly how the plot will continue, as season one ended on the same note as Moriarty's book of the same name.
However, HBO did give insight to the next season, saying in a statement that they will explore the "malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode … the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom."
Both Witherspoon and Kravitz took to Instagram to celebrate the news.
"The ladies of Monterey are back!" wrote Witherspoon, alongside a "cheers" gif from the series.
"So you’re saying there’s a season two?" Kravitz wrote with a still from the series.
We can't WAIT to head back to Monterey!
