The couple share three children, Violet, 12, Seraphina, nine and Samuel, six and filed for divorce in 2016 after two years of separation. They are yet to sign the papers to make the divorce official.
The source added that Garner has been hoping to finalize the divorce but “struggles” with questions like, “Is Ben healthy enough to have custody? Can she rely on him to co-parent?”
Affleck split from Saturday Night Live producer girlfriend Lindsay Shookus and was last week spotted with 22-year-old Playboy model Shauna Sexton.
This will be Affleck’s third stint in rehab, previously seeking help in 2001 and March 2017. After the most recent stint, the Gone Girl actor took to Facebook releasing a statement on his sobriety.
“I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront,” he wrote. “I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I’m lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I’ve done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.”
