Bella Hadid Says She Is Proud To Be Muslim
Bella Hadid has opened up to Porter about her religious upbringing and what it means to her in the current United States.
Bella explains that she and her sister, Gigi Hadid, felt compelled to participate in the New York protest against Donald Trump's Muslim travel ban in February, because of their heritage.
The model, who graced the cover of this season's Porter, is the daughter of Dutch Yolanda Hadid and Palestinian Mohamed Hadid. She revealed to the publication that she is proud of her Islamic roots and spoke of life as the daughter of an immigrant.
"My dad (Mohamed Hadid) was a refugee when he first came to America, so it's actually very close to home for my sister and brother and me," she explained. "He was always religious, and he always prayed with us. I am proud to be a Muslim."
Bella also opened up about her feelings after breaking up with longtime boyfriend, The Weeknd, in 2016.
"I'm just really focusing on myself, and my work, and just being the best that I can be. I'm not really worried about what guys think about me, I'm just trying to be a woman!" she told the publication. "It gets really overwhelming. You feel really overexposed and you don't want to see anybody... I just want to be in my apartment alone and kind of retreat and be centered again."
