In last night's episode, Lisa Hyde and Luke McLeod chose to leave Bachelor In Paradise after spending three weeks loved-up together in the resort. The couple decided to take their relationship off the island, and see how they would fare in the "real world."
As it turns out, the real world saw the couple face some difficulties and, after a few months of dating, the pair called it quits. Today, Lisa has revealed the split was caused by Luke cheating on her. Yikes!
We caught up with Luke this morning to see what he had to say about the relationship and his alleged affair.
InStyle: Why did you and Lisa decide to leave the island in last night's episode? Was it a tough decision?
Luke McLeod: I care about her and we did have a connection and I thought, I still do, that she's an incredible woman. It was a bit tough at the time because we were only there for three weeks, if that, and you're still getting to know someone. I struggled with it a bit but I thought maybe this was worth a try, so let's try it [leaving].
IN: How long did you continue dating Lisa outside of BIP?
LM: A couple of months. [The show] finished in December and things broke down in late January. In that period of time it was difficult because you cant just go back in to life and be a normal couple. We had to have this secret relationship and then there was all this pressure to make things work, and everyone out there thinks you're single... It wasn’t healthy and I struggled. It created issues and we tried to work through it and it just got to a point where it imploded.
IN: You guys seemed happy on the show, did you think you were falling in love with Lisa on the island?
LM: That’s the hardest part about this whole thing, we did have some incredible experiences but this obviously has completely overshadowed all of that. We had great times and it’s just unfortunate that it’s gotten to this situation and it’s where it’s at right now.
IN: Lisa said in a previous interview this morning that you need to "man up and own up to what you did." Do you have any thoughts on that?
LM: I can understand where she’s coming from and I'm trying to do that. I’ve taken responsibility and apologised, and I feel like I’ve let a lot of people down. This is never an easy thing to talk about, even more so in such a public manner. Im trying to take responsibility and not get into this "he said, she said" debate. Theres always two sides and there were things that lead up to it, but I don’t wanna do that to her. I think it’s important that I give her the respect and space she deserves.
IN: How are you coping with the backlash now that the episode has aired and the truth is out there?
LM: Its tough. It’s really hard right now, but its also been hard leading up to the episode, so I'm just trying to deal with it in the best way possible. Yeah, it’s difficult and I just feel disappointed in myself more than anyone. I'm just trying to take responsibility and say sorry and let people know that everybody makes mistakes. I'm trying to learn, and grow, and move forward.
