After announcing he will be stepping down from royal duties in May, Prince Philip confirms he will be retiring sooner than expected. The Duke of Edinburgh’s final official engagement has been announced for August –despite initially planning to see out the year.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the 96-year-old will attend the Royal Marines Parade.
"The Parade will take place on the Buckingham Palace forecourt on Wednesday, 2nd August and will bring The Duke's programme of public engagements to a conclusion." reads an official statement.
However, Prince Philip who is s Patron, President or a member of over 780 organisations, will occasionally make public appearances in the future. "His Royal Highness may still choose to attend events alongside The Queen from time to time."
