Mischa Barton has opened up about the terrifying moment she first learned she was the victim of a revenge porn attack.
The actress spoke with Dr. Phil about the incident, revealing she "didn't believe it at first."
"Somebody came up to me on the street," she told the host. "And said, ‘There’s something I need to tell you,’ and I didn’t believe it at first, I couldn’t believe it. Because I had loved this person and I didn’t think it was possible. And I later learned it was entirely possible.
"I didn’t believe it at first, I couldn’t believe it because I had loved this person and I didn’t think it was possible, and I later learned that it was entirely possible," Barton shared. "It was obviously complete emotional blackmail, it was one of those things where I needed to distance myself from all of these people immediately because there’s not much you can do; it’s really out of your hands, and it was a crime," she said.
Barton said "I have made the mistake of putting myself in that situation with the person, so I just removed myself from it as quickly as I could. And then it just continued to be complete emotional abuse after that, for the past several, several months."
Since learning of the existence of the tape, Mischa has obtained a restraining order and filed a police report against the ex allegedly responsible. She also revealed at a press conference in the immediate aftermath that she had no knowledge of being filmed, and that the tape was created without her consent.
In her interview with Dr. Phil, Mischa also spoke about the terrifying health scare she experienced on her birthday this year, when someone spiked her drink. The actress was drugged with the date-rape drug GHB, which led to hallucinations and a breakdown in her home, which was filmed by neighbours and shared online.
