The Game Of Thrones producers are all about making a sartorial statement. Take this season, for example, where it appears the lead characters have joined some kind of biker gang/leather goods trading company with their new aesthetic.
While fans were quick to notice this odd leathery vibe of Euron Greyjoy, Tyrion Lannister, Missandei and more, there was one detail that may have passed unnoticed: Sansa’s necklace.
As one eagle-eyed viewer pointed out, Sansa's choice in jewellery made a bold statement about her relationship with Little Finger. The necklace was a throwback to the one she started wearing at the end of Season 4, when she lied about her aunt Lysa Arryn's death to cover for Littlefinger before willingly riding with him into the Vale.
Then, Jon Snow left Sansa in charge of Winterfell during his absence, saying: "You’re the only Stark in Winterfell. Until I return, the North is yours."
At this point, she shared quick and incredibly tense eye contact with Littlefinger, who has been encouraging her to take over as ruler of the North since Season 6.
Game Of Thrones costume designer Michele Clapton has previously confirmed that Sansa's wardrobe is inspired by the character's she is currently aligning herself with. For example, in the earlier seasons she dressed to emulate Cersei Lannister. So what is the meaning of the return of this necklace? The symbolic jewellery, coupled with this quick exchange, could mean many things. Is Sansa nervous that Littlefinger will attempt to overthrow the Stark family? Or is she planning to plot with him for her own power? Only time will tell but, for now, we are very concerned.
