Spotted: Gossip Girl fans breaking down on the steps of The Met.
Ed Westwick, AKA Chuck Bass, has shut down rumours of a Gossip Girl reunion in his latest interview. He was the bad boy of your favourite high-school based drama featuring ridiculously good looking teenagers (a true honour, considering the sheer scope of the genre), and now he's here to crush your dreams.
Whether it’s Gilmore Girls, or Full House, or even Ghostbusters, the last few years have proven that fans are thirsty for revivals of their favourite films and TV shows. So, naturally, fans are excitedly waiting to see if Blake Lively, Leighton Meester and the whole gang would be on board for more episodes.
However, when asked if there was a chance our favourite Upper East Siders would return, Ed was quick to shut any possible rumours down.
"Nah, that's not gonna happen," he told Radio Times. "I know there's a bunch of them coming back—I hear they're doing Will & Grace, they've done Gilmore Girls...But it's such a strange thing to think about. It feels like we only just finished! I did so much with that character—it’s played out, man. It’s done."
In Ed’s defense, the show only wrapped in 2012, and they did manage to weave a lifetime’s worth of plots into five seasons.
Think about it: There were teacher-student relationships, multiple imposter frenemies, there was a fake cancer diagnosis that lead to a love triangle, on that note there were too many love triangles to count and, above all else, we know that Dan Humphrey is actually Gossip Girl 'herself.' What else is there to do?
Despite Ed's insistence, however, his former co-star Blake recently said she would consider reprising her role if she was asked.
"Why not?" she said. "It sort of all depends. Would I do seven years of the show? No, because it's hard work and I've got my babies, and I don't want to be away from them that much. But I've just learned in life you never say never.
"I'm looking to do something that I haven't done yet, not something that I did. But would I do that? Who knows — if it was good, if it made sense. We had so much fun shooting and living and working in New York City," she added.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see how this one pans our, with or without Ed Westwick.
