Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were once at the top of the star couple totem pole, but over the last two years, things changed drastically ... and then came to a complete standstill.
Their divorce is almost taking longer than their actual marriage lasted (2014-2016, for those paying attention), and it's not publicly clear whether it'll speed up anytime soon. What's causing the lengthy delay? Serious disagreements, that's what.
As we knew, Jolie and Pitt haven't exactly seen eye to eye when it comes to custody of five of their children (14-year-old Pax, 13-year-old Zahara, 12-year-old Shiloh, and 10-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne), but because they haven't agreed on this, little else has even been discussed.
"They are kind of at an impasse at this point," an insider told E! News, "because the focus has been on custody, nothing else has been hashed out."
InStyle has reached out to Jolie and Pitt's reps for comment. Even though things haven't been drama-free, there might be light at the end of the tunnel after all. A source told Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday that Jolie and Pitt have set up secret meetings to discuss co-parenting, and that sounds like an extremely amicable move in the right direction.
"Brad and Angelina actually set up a secret meeting at her house," the source said. "It’s the first time they have truly gotten together to make things work since their group therapy with the children. Brad and Angie’s meeting was a success. They are going to stay with the plan set forth through the courts."
The idea to put the arguing aside to talk about the kids reportedly came from Jolie.
“Angelina decided it was time to try to make things work and Brad was relieved and very ready for the offer," the source added. "Brad has been dedicated to making peace throughout the process and now it finally seems like they are at a point where they can create a calmer situation for the kids."
Good news all around. For their family's sake, let's hope the proceedings move along swiftly and peacefully.
