Try to contain your excitement, but the ABC just confirmed a Grey's Anatomy spin-off is headed our way.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the network has given a straight-to-series order to a spin-off set in a Seattle firehouse. Naturally, the spin-off will be created by Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes. You know, the woman who loves to make us feel all kinds of emotional each week.
The untitled project will be centered around a group of firefighters, and will follow the brave men and women as they risk their lives in the line of duty. The spin-off will launch out of an episode of Grey’s Anatomy.
“No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and Grey’s signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff,” said ABC chief Channing Dungey.
Stacy McKee (Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder) will write the script and executive produce with Shonda and Betsy Beers. The project will be the second spin-off from Grey’s Anatomy, after Private Practice, which ran from 2007 to 2013.
The news comes after ABC announced that another Shonda series, Scandal, will be wrapping up after it's seventh season. Down with one show, and on with another for the superstar executive producer. We can't wait to find out more about the new project!
