As a teen, this Brit dreamed of a pro-rugby career...until it actually happened. "Playing rugby is like being in a car crash every week," says Josh Bowman. After repeated shoulder injuries forced him from the field, Bowman took up another passion: acting. Five years later, he's scored big as billionaire boy toy Daniel Grayson on TV hit Revenge. Did your rugby training prepare you in any way for Hollywood? "I was at a professional level and that was tough—tough! But it taught me a lot: discipline, respect, how to work within a team and to calm the ego—all of which I've taken on board to survive in the acting world." What's it like getting slapped by your on-screen mum, Madeleine Stowe, in the show? "Painful. But she was cool, saying, 'Let's not do it for real. We'll fake it. It's fine.' And I respond, 'Hell no! If you're gonna slap me, slap me!' Then she says [in an assassin-like voice], 'Okay.' And immediately I was like, 'I'll regret saying that.' I've been hit before and she's up there as one of the best." Do you have any go-tos when you're dressing to impress? "I always start with the shoes. I love nice shoes. I'd say that, for a male, I probably have an above-average-sized shoe wardrobe. Tom Ford, Cole Haan, Tod's—all do amazing footwear. I also like Toms, Converse, Nike, Adidas, Sperry. Don't you find that a lot of women judge you by your shoes?"- Brantley Bardin For more on Josh Bowman, pick up the December issue of InStyle, on sale now. |
