As the face of Dior fragrance J'Adore, tell us: how do you wear it? "I dab on a few drops of J'Adore before I go out, or J'Adore L'Absolu [EDP$155/50ml] when I'm feeling very womanly. I put it on my neck, wrist, behind my ears. It makes me feel strong, in a sexy way."
What other scents do you find powerful? "Natural scents. I still remember the smell of nature in South Africa [Theron's homeland]."
What sweetens or spices up your day? "I love when I have time to be active, especially when it's beautiful outdoors and I can go for a hike. That's one of the best things about LA."
What does true luxury mean to you? "Time spent with friends and family. I like to disappear between films, away from my 'glam' image. I enjoy a simple lifestyle. My mum lives close to me, and I hang out with her or close friends; we cook dinners and share bottles of red wine. I need this time to keep my inner balance."
How do you feel about ageing—any fears? "Not really, or I should say, not yet! What strikes me, though, whether in South Africa or in the States, is the desperate clinging to youth, beauty and perfection. Society puts so much pressure on women. As you get older, you get wrinkles and your breasts sag—that's the reality of life, and I try my best to embrace life."
