Showcasing her unmistakably vibrant creations, Australian fashion legend Jenny Kee's installation at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was her first major solo presentation since 1981. Featuring archival pieces from 1980-2012, and titled
Art of the Scarf, the retrospective celebrated some of the artist and designer's most recognisable looks.
A soundtrack of bush harmonies and Buddhist mantras set the tone for one of the week's most striking productions. Models stood swathed in fabric, amidst wattle and eucalyptus branches, many of which sprouted from their headpieces. Famous for her exuberant prints, motif references ranged from exotic birds and tropical fish to local fauna, like the waratah, Kee's signature emblem.
Kee styled the show with Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett of Romance Was Born; each of the masterfully twisted, knotted, tied and draped scarves shown are part of a non-seasonal range, a collection that will continue to grow.
