Have you ever been stuck in a hair rut? After sorting through years' worth of photos I noticed that while my wardrobe, make-up and (sadly) skin have changed over the years—my hair length has stayed the same (long and wavy). After a few weeks of thinking it was time for a cut, it seems the Hair Gods are sending me a message, with famously long-locked celebs, like Scarlett Johansson and now Jessica Alba and Nicole Richie, all going for the chop. Surely it's a sign that it's time. I'm absolutely in love with Alba's hair in particular. The length, style and licks of highlights throughout, get five stars from me. And heck, it grows back right? Now time to make that appointment...
Quick ways to style a short 'do. One of the massive upsides of a short style is, it's easier to get volume and lift because your hair doesn't weigh itself down. For the tousled waves that celebrities like Alexa Chung are sporting, follow these simple steps: 1. After combing freshly washed hair, spray in a volume-enhancing or root lift product directly to the roots under your top layer of hair (so that it doesn't look dirty). 2. Blow-dry this in by pulling your hair in the opposite direction with a round brush to encourage the roots to lift. 3. When the hair is around 50% dry, spritz in a sea-salt spray, or scrunch in a curling cream and finish blow-drying with a diffuser or let your hair air-dry if it has a natural curl to it. 4. Once dry if you want some added curl, take random pieces and wrap around a hot tong for 10 seconds then release for a relaxed wave. 5. Finish by misting a flexible hairspray over the style.
